My name is Kanal Kato.
I'm a Traditional Craftsman & Artist,
weaving dreams in my workshop based in Toyooka City JP.
2013 - 2020 I worked as a Barista in Germany.
I learned about the importance of Japanese culture and history again during the stay.
I realized Japanese Traditional crafts are outstanding in the world.
In 2020 I was lucky enough to gain a full backup through as a Local Vitalization Cooperator, the intern system of the country. I spent few years under the old weavers guidance absorbing every bit of knowledge and experience. I thought it is necessary to construct new business models among Traditional crafts. In 2023 I started my own company.
Our company policy is to creat the custom-made products that go beyond the conventional frameworks and stereotypes of traditional crafts. We believe it is the potential of this industry, and something even greater.
My true passion and purpose is to make highly creative and timeless items using my skills and identities that I learnt from my parents, old weavers, and the experiences of seven years in Germany and many others. I love the challenges of working on bespoke commissions and bringing abstract ideas to life. I need to share and teach my skills and grow up the next generation of willow weavers, like passing a baton as my mentors did for me.
